5 Simple Ways to Upskill as a HGV Fleet Manager

Working as a transport manager and finding time to think about how you can advance your career can be difficult.

To help make it easier, here are four simple ways you can progress your career.

Take part in regular refresher courses:

Did you know that transport managers need to keep up to date with more than 70 pieces of individual legislation to remain compliant? Refresher courses can be a great, cost and time effective way to stay up to date.

Sign up for an Operator Licence Awareness Training (OLAT) course:

As a transport fleet manager, it’s down to you to keep up to date with all legal compliance related to the fleet. One of the best ways to make sure you have all the current knowledge is to do an OLAT course. Although not essential, it is recommended to be completed every few years to help you have a full understanding of relevant legislation. Plus, this course only takes one day to complete, and counts 7 hours towards your Driver CPC training.

Complete a Health and Safety course:

Something like the The IOSH Managing Safely course will help you assess and control risks, understand responsibilities and hazards and investigate incidents. It also helps you measure performance against health and safety targets.

Sign up for Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) training:

FORS accreditation shows your supply chain and customers your commitment to ?fleet performance in key areas: environmental impact, safety, and operational efficiency. The programme provides a framework and sets benchmarks to help you enhance your performance in these areas.
