HGL Memories: Stories From The Field -35th Anniversary

In celebration of HGL's 35th Anniversary, throughout the rest of the year, we will be sharing the memories of staff from their time at HGL.

Below is a fun memory of a sampling event from?HGL employees Melissa Cassmeyer?and?Scott Grant.

Scott Grant and I were collecting groundwater samples at the former Blaine Naval Ammunition Depot site in Hastings, NE. One of the properties we sampled was the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC). Some of the people who work at USMARC are genuine cowboys and cowgirls who ride horses to tend the cattle herds. One of the monitoring well locations we sampled was inside the pen where the cowboys’ and cowgirls’ horses are kept when not being used. We pulled into the pen to get to the monitoring well, and four curious horses came over to see what we were doing. As seen in one of the pictures, several of the horses were happy to accept Scott’s offer to share some the carrots he had brought for his lunch. As seen in the other picture, one of the horses decided to inspect my work as I was collecting samples from a HydraSleeve. While he was at it, he decided to get a look inside the bed of our truck and to check out my hat.

It definitely was a sampling event to remember. Scott and I had a great time with our new horse friends!-?Melissa Cassmeyer, P.E. and Scott Grant,?QEP
