HGInSIGHT May

From the Editor

Earlier this month we like so many other organisation’s celebrated International Nurses Day (IND) and International Day of the Midwife that coincided with the release of IND’s special report on the economic power of care.

The report, informed by nursing experts, academics and economists, identifies that about half of the world’s population, 4.5 billion people, are not covered by essential healthcare. Further, that poor health and poor quality care contributes up to 15% of all deaths in some countries, many of which are preventable, and reduces global GDP by 15%.

These are big numbers and the coherent argument is made that investments increasing the productivity of the health workforce result in good health, economic growth, job creation and productivity gains in other sectors. I would highly recommend reading the report.

Closer to home I am so delighted we get to hear from three highly talented leaders with proud nursing backgrounds who are part of our executive learning set program, Professor Alison J McMillan PSM, Karen Linegar and Lisa Cox. They each share their insights on nursing as a profession, leadership development and the great advice they have had over the years to guide their careers.

Speaking of careers, we feel very honored to partner with The Australian College of Nursing to recruit their next Chief Executive. The College plays a key role in policy and advocacy of behalf of the nursing profession in Australia and is the Australian member of the International Council of Nurses headquartered in Geneva in collaboration with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation.

Certainly this is a truly standout role but read on to explore other roles we are recruiting?to?in this month’s newsletter and more on our website.

Until next time, mā te wā ?
