HeyJobs raises the largest financing round of a German career platform ever. Why?

At HeyJobs, we just closed the largest financing round ever for a career platform in Germany. 43 Million €.

That's the quick news, which we are of course very grateful for. Now, I would like to invite you to take the time to read why we at HeyJobs do what we do. Why our existing investors Heartcore Capital, Creathor Ventures, Notion Capital as well as our new investors Digital+ Partners and FMZ Ventures believe that we are only getting started in solving a once-in-a-generation challenge.

Marius Jeuck and I founded HeyJobs in 2016 in response to Europe’s dramatically changing demographics. For the first time in the history of mankind there will be more over 60 year olds than under 30 year olds in Germany. Let that sink in.??

With the “boomer” generation nearing retirement, European employers are facing steep declines in available workforce. For instance, Germany alone is losing over 500,000 workers annually soon. 2x as many people retire every year as join the workforce.

The last two years have shown us what kind of work is really "essential" in society.

Let me tell you about three of the over 100’000 people who we have helped find a new job since our founding 6 years ago.

Kristina, a nursery teacher who started her new job in April 2020 when risk groups had to go into quarantine and parents desperately hoped for people like Kristina to help daycares to stay open.

Philipp, a mechanic who had worked in various jobs over the years but, through HeyJobs, was hired as a mechanic at a company renowned as the world’s leader in producing ventilators.

Luisa, who had left her indoors warehousing job at the world’s largest online retailer and, through HeyJobs, scored a job as a bicycle messenger finally working outdoors again.

Collectively they are the answer to why we do what we do: We, Team HeyJobs, want to prevent the coming labor shortage disaster in Europe so that our parents can get human elderly care, our children get to have great teachers at Kita and schools, and our heaters are repaired in time.

Today, we help >2’500 employers recruit ‘essential talent’ across 100 different professions. 5 years ago, our sourcing technology could identify who is a nurse versus a driver. Now, our machine learning algorithms have learned to identify who is a qualified intensive care unit nurse that seeks to do 3 night shifts. In 2021, we were responsible for around 1% of all German hires. Talk about only getting started.

Our big hairy audacious goal is to become the #1 Career Platform for essential talent in Europe, literally changing millions of lives every year. It’s crazy how we as a society have neglected the largest share of the workforce - 30 million alone in Germany, over 200 million essential talent in Europe -? for decades. They deserve better.

With the financing round, we also welcome Katrin Suder to HeyJobs who is the new? Chairwoman of the HeyJobs Board of Directors. In 2011, she published “Competitive Advantage: Skilled Workers”, a widely cited white paper on strategies for German companies to win in difficult macro-demographic times. Talk about mission-aligned.

Katrin has substantial experience as a board member and chair in private as well as publicly listed companies such as Cloudflare. Previously, she chaired the German Digital Council and was State Secretary in the German Ministry of Defense. She started her career and became Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company, where she was in charge of the German Public Sector Practice. Welcome to the team, Katrin.
