When most people hear the word “brand”, they think of the logo and all the pretty pictures and adverts and packaging relating to a product.

But building a brand is a whole lot more than that. Before you get to that, there are 2 crucial steps that you as an entrepreneur should NOT miss out on before even talking to a designer about your logo and brand identity. These are:

Step 1: Research and understand your market and industry (Research Phase)

Step 2: Create a strategy for your brand. In simple terms, decide how you want your brand to be seen by the customer and figure out what makes you different from your competition. (Brand Strategy phase)

Once you have done this, THEN you can move on to Step 3, which is Brand identity development. This involves designing your brand logo and colours, choosing your typography (the fonts you use), your photography (the style and type of images you will use), as well as icons and even sound.

I always advise entrepreneurs to make sure they are working with a branding specialist who knows what they are doing and who has a track record and the right experience in developing brands.?
