Hey Y'all
It is with great hope that I can begin a successful writing career. I write humorous essays based on daily life.
My writing style is like eavesdropping on Lewis Gizzard, Ann George, and Celestine Sibly sharing a Coca-Cola on Ronda Rich’s front porch. With respect to southern satire and unique observations of regular old stuff, my pieces are primarily designed to make readers laugh. If they also evoke nostalgia or contemplation of more serious subjects, so much the better. I hope to delight my readers, to bring back memories of youth well spent---or perhaps not so well spent.
Topics range from making hell freeze over to finding dead bodies and dealing with the red tape of bureaucracy that entails. Anything is open to comment.
For example, have you spent years being nice to many undeserving people? Me, too. Now I just look at those times as past adventures and a chance to giggle. Sometimes my voice can be full of Southern charm and grace, and at other times, more full of grits and gravel. I use everything from the softest of caresses to subtle cutthroat charm, because I need to tell these stories.
Retired after 34 years of teaching and counseling, I write a regular column for a local monthly newspaper, The Gwinnett Citizen. I am the parent of a special needs son, James, who was deprived of oxygen at birth. James has many amazing talents. Brilliant in some areas, he struggles in others, but don’t we all? My husband is eleven years older than I. My plan had been to marry a rich old man. I only got old, but I wouldn’t trade him for anything. I don’t want to have to train another one!
