How to answer: "What's your greatest weakness?"

Acing the "What's your greatest weakness?" question during an interview can be a bit tricky, but with the right approach, you can show off your strengths and steer the conversation in a positive direction.

  • Don't blow it - real "weakness" OR bust in interviews. Anything less and they might doubt your honesty, credibility, sincerity, integrity ….. You know where this is going, right?
  • Don't even think about mentioning a weakness or challenge you've already overcome. That's not a current weakness anymore, is it?
  • And don't you fall into the trap of just disguising your weakness as another strength. That's a common misconception, (I've read that many times in articles and some influencer blogs) but it's not the real deal. Na'ah!

HERE'S HOW!

  1. Be Real: Share a genuine weakness and your efforts to improve. Show transparency and build trust with the interviewer.
  2. Show Self-Awareness: Illustrate your understanding of impact, steps to overcome, and turning it into a strength. Show commitment to self-improvement.
  3. Own it: Emphasize your commitment to self-improvement. Share plan of action, progress tracking, and proactive initiative."

Nail your answers by following these three points. Show your interviewer that you're a proactive, self-aware go-getter committed to personal growth.?

Hiring managers and interviewers are often looking for answers to questions like?

"Are you stronger than your competition?",

"Should I pick you over other candidates I've interviewed?",

and "Will you need additional training to be successful in this job?"?

And lastly, a question that is essential for both employees and candidates to ask themselves is -- "Am I part of the problem or part of the solution?"

In the context of an interview, the question becomes, "Will you be a source of problems or a valuable asset to the team?" This reflection helps us understand the impact we have on our work and assess areas for growth and improvement.

Answering this question should not only help the interviewer assess you, but it should also be a way for you to self-assess and think about what you can improve on. So, take a moment to internalize what your weakness really is and how you are working on it.. before your next interview.

Whew! this got lengthy.

If you've gotten this far, thanks for sticking with me.?

(My brain's been all over the place today, so here I am, sharing my thoughts. LOL.)

Hope it helps.?

If not, let me know how I can step up my game.
