Hey Siri ! Privacy has a price tag, and apparently it's $20 per device...

Apple just agreed to pay $95M to settle a class action lawsuit over Siri accidentally recording private conversations. Here's the tea:
Between 2014-2024, Siri was allegedly catching more than just "Hey Siri" - it was recording private convos without consent and sharing them with third parties. Oops! Users started noticing suspiciously specific ads about things they'd only discussed in private. Creepy much? ??
The Settlement:
- Applies to US owners of Siri-enabled devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac etc.)
- Up to $20 compensation per device (max 5 devices)
- Must prove you experienced unwanted Siri activation during private convos
- Claim deadline: June 2025
The irony? Apple, worth over $3 TRILLION, is paying what amounts to a coffee per device for violating people's privacy. I guess our intimate conversations are worth about the same as a grande latte! ??
But wait, there's more! As part of the deal, Apple promises to:
- Delete all unauthorized Siri recordings (better late than never?)
- Be more transparent about how Siri data is used
- Update their privacy policies
So next time Siri "accidentally" crashes your private conversation, remember - you might be eligible for enough compensation to buy yourself a consolation snack! ??
