Hey, Look Ma! I Made It – Oh Snap Social Celebrates Six Years!

Hey! Look ma, I made it!?

Did you know that 45% of businesses fail within the first 5 years?! I’ve officially beat the odds and have surpassed 5 years in business. We’re officially on to year 6.

Now I’ve learned a lot in the past 5 years, but as we step into year six and the second half of 2024, I’m excited by a renewed sense of energy. Buckle in, friends. I have a confession to make, it hasn’t been all rainbows and butterflies over here. It’s been tough tough tough. The market has changed drastically and people aren’t investing in social media as they had in 2021, 2022 and early 2023. That’s to be expected as the world shifted completely online by force in 2020 and now people are starting to invest in other ways both on and offline, so long as they’re being intentional, I’m all for it!? But this has required me to sit on the platform and watch the rollercoaster twist and turn before embarking on this loop-de-loop of a revamp. Before we talk about where we are and where we’re going I’d like to share where we’ve been. I never seem to reflect much on life let alone business these days…I blame my toddler whose favorite word as of late is “no.”?

But since you are my insider circle of internet besties, I thought I’d be a bitttt vulnerable.

The first half of the year has been a whirlwind. I’ve been embracing this slower-paced business life, while also alternating between utter panic of hitting my monthly revenue goals and not burning myself or my team.

TEAM:

Earlier this year I leaned out my team even more. We’re a small but mighty team sitting pretty at 4 of us. With that being reality, I’ve been taking on more of the workload myself and realigning my business (and our offerings) with what I actually enjoy. More on that in just a sec.

SERVICES:

I had the privilege in this early part of the year to take on a 3-month consulting gig as a fractional digital media director inside the Forbes Books team. It was an absolute blast working alongside their wickedly talented team and serving their members who are of course authors, but more importantly thought leaders in their spaces, which (double of course), is right up my alley.

NEW NICHE AUDIENCE:

If you’re newer to this corner of the internet…my alley has changed. Though small businesses are the foundation of Oh Snap! Social and I hope they will be forever, we’re expanding our offerings to focus primarily on authors, thought leaders, speakers and TEDx talkers. You know the types — brilliant and on a mission. They also tend to have fancy letters at the end of their names and a ton of airline miles. They are my people! So that’s one change… a more targeted focus on who we’re looking to serve. If you know of thought leaders, speakers, or authors who are looking for a snappy social media strategy to polish their online presence, I’d love an intro. The next piece is our service offerings. Though we love to ‘do the doing’ for our clients, we’re at our capacity at the moment. Instead, we will focus our efforts on regularly running Pulse Check Audits and providing custom Social Media Strategy Manuals to our clients at part of our Fan Firestarter Framework.?

Now, if you want the doing done, we get it, we’re not leaving you digitally stranded! We have something new on the horizon that we absolutely cannot wait to launch in Q4. SPEAKING/TEACHING:

I’ve realized in the past year and a half that I adore teaching, training and speaking. After being booked on 32+ podcasts in the past year, speaking on multiple stages in different cities, a new country and countless virtual spaces, I truly enjoy not only sharing my story of how I got here, but also how to create a social media strategy with intention and send the Imposter Monster packing.

It’s the aha moments that fill the online chat of the American Marketing Association bootcamp of 163 attendees, it’s the intimate rooms of workshops, it’s the larger stages and conversations as a panelist. No matter the size, no matter how long I’m sharing, it’s so freaking fulfilling. I’m hoping to have more chances to share my expertise and knowledge gleaned in my past 15+ years in the space.?

ALIGNMENT:

As I’m on this quest for realigning my business with my overarching personal values, I’ve mapped out my “best day life” with my business coach. And the biggest thing that showed up for me was the fact that I wasn’t allowing myself to have that “commute time” between when I close the laptop and when I shift into mom/wife mode. I have to start incorporating that into my day.?

To do this successfully requires a certain level of self-awareness, which also means taking notice of my most productive hours to work which, for better or for worse, are between the hours of 5-10am — I know I know, all you night owls are like what in the… haiii early bird over here. This also means, that to allow myself time to transition and also not have my brain completely melt out my ears, I need to shut down my workday ideally at 2:00 or 3:00pm, which I know will be easier said than done. But I’m going to give it a whirl and see how I do. Again, may not be an everyday thing, but a “best day life” day.

I’m beyond grateful for my husband who has held down the fort while I’m off doing my thang. He’s the real MVP. To my family, and my ride-or-die friends (who are basically family) thank you for always being so supportive of this wild journey and never letting me quit, but instead offering words of encouragement on the hard days.?
