Hey, Little Sister!

Hey, Little Sister!

Are you scared about your future? Do you constantly struggle to find your purpose in life? Does life currently feel like a maze you constantly can’t seem to hack? Today, I am writing to you with a heart full of pride and encouragement, hoping to inspire you to dream big and believe in yourselves.

As a young girl, you may occasionally feel that there are too many barriers in your way. There will be moments when you question your abilities and believe your goals are too lofty or unrealistic. Let me tell you something, though: every great woman who has accomplished anything began with the same goals, uncertainties, and resolve that you have. Above all, remember that everything is possible if you envision it. I always thought I would become a doctor instead of pursuing a career in social sciences as a child. Think about that! Unfortunately, life includes highs and lows, leading us to our destiny.

?As a young girl growing up in a predominantly patriarchal society, I was faced with a lot of 'girls can't do this and that.' Nonetheless, I am a true testament that girls can be whatever they want with the right kind of support. Along my journey, below are a few tips and tricks that I have picked up and made them my guiding principles:

  • Embrace Education and be curious: I know by now it sounds like a cliché when you hear adults say, 'Education is your key to success,' but take it from a not-so-older sister: It really is. It opens doors to endless possibilities not just within your country but globally. Be curious, ask questions, and seek knowledge relentlessly.
  • Stay Resilient and focused: It's in the nature of life to throw challenges your way, but your resilience will help you overcome them. Take everything you go through in life as a lesson, get back up, and steer right through it. Learn from your failures, learn from others who have been where you are now, and grow stronger from setbacks. You are stronger than you think. Stronger communities are built when we lift, empower, and encourage each other.
  • Believe in Yourself: I CANNOT stress this enough: believing in yourself and your abilities will be your greatest strength. Imposter syndrome might kick in once in a while; it's normal, but remember who you are and what you stand for. YOU ARE EXACTLY WHO YOU THINK YOU ARE! This particular type of attitude will get you far in life.
  • Set Goals and celebrate every win, big or small: The journey of a thousand miles begins with small steps. While setting your big goals, remember to set small steps that will ultimately lead you to the bigger goal. Celebrate your achievements along the way, no matter how small they may seem. A win is a win, sis!
  • Be Kind and Compassionate: Our strength lies in how well we interact with others. Always ensure that you are kind with your words, actions, and intentions.

The future of any nation lies in the hands of the young people. Young people have the power to bring about change, inspire the future, and hold failing social structures accountable.

I believe in each one of you. You are capable, you are strong, and you are destined for greatness. Your potential is limitless, and I can't wait to see what you will achieve. Keep pushing forward, stay curious, stay true to yourselves, and never stop dreaming. Be demure, be mindful, and most importantly be cutesy ??.

With all my best wishes and support,

?

Your big Sister,

Halima
