The concerns about pandemic, volatility of the market and uncertainty about how things would look like in the next few days is on everyone’s mind.
As a small business owner you might be at the receiving end of this chaotic situation but let me tell you, this is the time when we need to step up, show up and look how we can take charge of our business and also make sure we are able to be of value and contribution to our clients, peers and community.
Here are a few things you might want to do
- Tune into what you are feeling right now. Is it anxiety, fear, helplessness, boredom, rejection, calm, hope, resilience. What is your emotional response to this situation and how you wish to take charge of it. Take a moment to converse with yourself, get grounded and gain clarity
- With a lot of events and meetings getting cancelled or rescheduled there is freeing up of your calendar. How can you best utilize this time. Maybe take up an online course, sign up for webinars or pick up the books you always wanted to read but were not getting the free time!
- This is an opportune time for you to connect with your clients and customers to ask ‘How are you?’. Go beyond your current engagement level to ask how you can serve them, be of help or just letting them know you are here for them, their family and employees to be of assistance. Leadership is about stepping up.
- With a sudden change in economic affairs which might take a longer back to reconcile you can sit down to re-evaluate your goals. There might have been revenue targets, marketing plan and sales goals that you would have had in place for the quarter. If not a complete overhaul but a little layering or rethinking might be good for yourself and your team
- Lastly, it is the best time for business owners and entrepreneurs to strategize the very next steps they should be taking in their business in the coming weeks, month or quarter. Prepare yourself with all the contingency plans, risk mitigation and course corrections you need to do when things start to look better.
These are turbulent times but as they say
‘Tough times don't last. Tough people do’
So muster up, be accessible for support and help. I am. So even in time of social distancing, let’s stay connected!
