hey, Dolly!
One thing I’ve always been extremely passionate about is pushing women into their calling. My dedication to the uplifting of women all over couples with writing about things that speak to women encouragement and motivation.
Maybe it’s because I know the insecurities and low self esteem we face all too well, so I try to find ways to mitigate that by inspiring others through stories, and inspirational pieces. Finding ways to uplift others has a vast spectrum especially with the growth of social media.
One inspiring woman I wanted to highlight was Miss Dolly Parton. I first learned more about Dolly after watching her “Coat of Many Colors” autobiography film covering her childhood and how her music career unfolded. The things you learn about people from their tender years certainly shifts your perspective.
Reese Witherspoon featured Dolly on “Shine On with Reese” sometime back, and it gave valuable insight into who Dolly is as a person. I only knew her for her songs but in watching the show, it taught me much more about her heart.
Moving from career to business is one thing but your character and how you handle others with grace, while walking in your purpose is another. Women can oftentimes get a bad rap if they’re too outspoken, not passionate enough, overbearing, type A or whatever else but I believe it's utterly a reach for us to just let our voice be heard.
Women in Dollys time, were just breaking free from some barriers. They were "making moves" and still are til dis day. From her ownership of The hit theme park, Dollywood to hit records and sampled songs such as "I Will Always Love You", Miss Parton has certainly acheived more than most. Maybe it's due to her working 9 to 5. (Pun intended lol)
From glam to glitz, I have always been intrigued by Dolly's dress code. Though seemingly timeless, her warmth and candid spirit opens up to who she really is in her music. Her lyrics from Backwards Barbie sings,
"I'm just a backwoods Barbie, too much makeup, too much hair.
Don't be fooled by thinkin' that the goods are not all there.
Don't let these false eyelashes lead you to believe that
I'm as shallow as I look 'cause I run true and deep I've always been misunderstood because of how I look.
Don't judge me by the cover 'cause I'm a real good book."
Candidly unapologetic and I love it.
