Hey, digital folks - Are you aware of steem? - Social media where content creators get paid in cryptocurrency
It's a snow day here in the NYC metro area. If you're not aware of this disruptive social media platform, you may want to check it out today instead of seeing what your FB friends are saying about the snow. I think the demise of Facebook is greatly exaggerated, however, steem is worth checking out. It's basically a social media platform/community where posters get paid in Steem dollars that could be converted to local currencies. It has all the trending buzzwords too - blockchain, crypto, global, content, and anti-establishment. It reminds me of the old days when I worked on this new thing called the consumer-facing internet for Nabisco (www.nabisco.com) way before the folks from marketing got involved. This was a time when Netscape, perl scripts, and coding html by hand were the tools of the trade. Not sure if this will be the next Twitter or snapchat, but it is pretty amazing.
I've been on the Steem for a few months now and I've found it to be a great place to fulfill my creative outlet. I've been posting humorous stories, food photos, and recipes, videos of me playing guitar and piano. Unlike Facebook, I'm interacting with people I don't know from all over the world. The community is very supportive, polite, genuine and has a thirst for knowledge. There are some users that only want up-votes (how you earn Steem), but they are few and far between. So far I've interacted with Ben Lee a well-known musician from Australia who typifies all that's good about steem. He shares feel-good stories, videos, live music events, and discussions. I've met and interacted with many interesting users who enter weekly contests ranging from open mic musical videos to sandwich creations.
So far there aren't any annoying advertisements or political rants, has a bit of an addicting gameification nature to it, and it's a nice side benefit that you get to earn dollars for your authoring and curation of posts. So use this snow day to learn about steem by going to steemit.com and take a look around. This isn't for everyone, but if you're creative, innovative, technical, then I urge you to check it out! If you want to connect, I can be found at steemit.com/@popsoz. Enjoy the snow day!!!
