HerStory in Every Word: A Guide to Communicating Powerfully as a Trailblazing Female Founder.

"Lower the volume on needing to be understood, and increase the intention to understand yourself better"-iambrillyant.

Here's a recent story.

I was invited to do a presentation to a local organization.

Remember, I said "invited"- which means I didn't invite myself.

So I did the needful-which meant I:

  1. Brainstormed an idea;
  2. Did a proposal;
  3. And a PowerPoint.

Little did I know, on the day in question, that there would be no proper accommodation made for the presentation- my VA and I found ourselves "jostling for space" in order to make it happen.

But that wasn't the worst part.

Before we even got started, a snide remark was made by one of the attendees-further adding to our discomfort.

Remember, I said we were invited, Right?

Long story short-I did the presentation. However, I won't avail myself of another invite anytime soon.

"And this is the part where you find out who you are"-Unknown.

So, here's the thing,

I've been a teacher, trainer and course developer for 15+ years, delivering training programs for both local and global audiences. I've also served as an adjunct lecturer and was the first woman in my former employ to become certified as an international lecturer.

And yet, I was made to feel as if I had nothing important or worthwhile to say.

And I'm quite certain I'm not the first female founder who's had a similar experience.

sigh...

Sharing my knowledge-"hard earned and hard learned"- is what brought me to entrepreneurship.

As female founders, effective communication isn't just a tool-it's your "superpower". In this article, I'll be sharing 5 of my strategies-time tested and tried-guaranteed to help you amplify your voice and build meaningful connections, as you take up space in your entrepreneurial "neck of the woods".

Strategy 1: Embrace Your "Authentic Voice".

As women, we're always being accused of talking too much. But as a fempreneur, your voice matters, since to a large extent it announces you - and your product or service offering. Think of it as your "unique signature"- describing your brand story, why you got started, your unique value proposition, the difference you plan to make to your industry, your community-the world.

So go ahead and embrace your voice-and the authenticity that comes with it. Share your experiences, insights, and perspectives with unapologetic confidence! Doing this not only fosters trust but also creates a genuine connection with your intended/targeted audience.

Remember: The more genuine you are, the more your message resonates.

"Nothing is more attractive than someone with passion for something, who looks at things positively, and is always seeking to better themselves"-Unknown.

2. Master the Art of Storytelling:

?

As an only girl growing up in a house of boys-my father allowed me to own my voice. And even when we disagreed (which was often), I always had the right (and privilege) to be heard.

As an adult, I'm able to reach back to those earliest experiences to craft the narrative of the woman I am today.

Using the art of storytelling to convey your brand's narrative, is one of the best ways to generate interest-and follow ship.

So go ahead, share your entrepreneurial journey-the victories as well as the challenges-you never know who you may be inspiring!

Remember: Stories create emotional connections, making your message memorable and relatable.

When we call a "Thing a thing"- we step into our own power!

3. Navigate with Clarity and Conciseness:

?

One of the biggest hurdles women face in business is unconscious bias. To move past it-clarity is required. This includes honing your ability to communicate with precision and conciseness.

So whether it's a pitch, a presentation, or a team meeting, it's essential that you're able to articulate your thoughts clearly. This also means avoiding unnecessary jargon, ensuring that your message is easily understood.

Remember: A clear and concise communication style not only enhances your professionalism, but also your impact.

4. Foster Inclusive Communication:

?

Effective communication ensures that everyone is heard. In today's world, creating an inclusive environment, one where diverse voices are not just listened to, but valued is critical.

As a trailblazer, actively seeking out differing perspectives and encouraging open dialogue within your team builds resiliency from day one.

Remember: By fostering inclusivity, you not only strengthen your company culture but also enhance the richness of your ideas and innovations.

"Become more aware of what's really worth your energy"- Unknown.

5. Build a Supportive Network:

?

Here's the thing we keep doing as women-female business owners or not-when things get rough, we isolate ourselves.

Stop doing this!

And here's why.

In business (and in life), communication extends beyond words-it's about building connections. When you actively cultivate a supportive network of mentors, peers, and advisors-and make time to regularly engage with other female founders and professionals, both within and outside your industry-you gain access to a network of support during challenging times.

Remember: Who feels it, knows it!

I've always relied on the support of my "female founder" community-we laugh, we cry - we share!

Now that I've shared what's worked for me, I'd love it if you'd challenge yourself to implement at least one new communication strategy from this newsletter in your next business interaction.

Whether it's fostering inclusivity, refining your storytelling, or ensuring clarity in your messaging-try it out, and then share your experiences with us-I'd love to hear how it goes!

Remember: Each action, no matter how small, contributes to the collective empowerment of female founders.

Let's seize the opportunity to amplify our voices and inspire positive change!
