A Hero's Vision
Remembering Martin Luther King Jr. Today

A Hero's Vision

This man had a dream! He had a vision! A vision for humanity, our country, our world and our hearts! We at Character GPS have included him in our curriculum for years now and he is one of the hero's we present to our children!

He talked about character, in fact, in a famous quote:

"I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

-Martin Luther King Jr.

In other words, as we tell our kids, don't judge a book by its cover! This really resonates with us and our students, so much that we had this quote printed on our 10th Anniversary Mugs that we gave out in 2021;

Our 10th Anniversary Mug

Being a Myers-Briggs' ENFJ, an Idealist, I used to practice reading his speeches loudly and with all of his preacher-like inflections...when I was alone of course... totally inspired by his words! I used to also read JFK's speeches out loud for inspiration and with Bostonian inflections of course!

Some of his most famous quotes:

"We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now."

"Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend."

"Let no man pull you so low as to hate him."

"Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education."

Obviously having good character was important to him. Character based on love alone. It is our hope, dream and vision to instill great character in the youth we work with so that they not only have the knowledge they need but the values and morals they also need to lead successful lives!

I want to end with this thought:

"In some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty."

Let MLK's words continue to inspire us to love more, judge less and give back to humanity in our own unique ways.

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, "What are you doing for others?"

Which echoes another famous quote by another hero:

"And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country."

-JFK

Be inspired today!
