The Heroism of Choice

Ever caught yourself watching videos of extreme experiences? People skydiving into the abyss, mountain biking on razor-edge cliffs, or surfing waves that could engulf a building??

Your heart skips, your mouth goes dry, and after a moment, you can't help but blurt out, "They're out of their effing minds!"?

Yet, a tiny, almost envious part of you whispers: they might be staring death in the face and enduring countless bruises and broken bones, but at least they're squeezing every drop out of life, right??

You chuckle, question their choices, and reassure yourself you'd never do that! After all, you are not that crazy to flirt with danger or dance with death.

But every single day, you're facing risks no cast or pill can mend. Risks that could etch deep, lasting scars on your psyche, ones you might lug around for years, or even a lifetime.?

You might not be leaping out of planes, but aren't you stepping into the unknown every time you start a new venture, ask someone out, share your secrets with a friend, confess love, or share an idea that invites the ridicule of your peers?

Living carries inherent risks, and unless you are playing it safe, you are almost always doing something outside of your comfort zone. You don’t have to be an adrenaline junkie. If you are daring enough to chase your dreams, to live by your rules, to make your mark in a world obsessed with fitting you into neat, predictable boxes, you are taking a risk.?

And you are not alone.

Sometimes we get too caught up with the greats we admire, idolize them for their monumental achievements, overlooking their humble beginnings and the simple choices that set them on their paths. The Grace Hoppers, the Alan Turings, the Malalas, and the Nikola Teslas of history weren’t born heroes; they were ordinary people, like you and me, who made the decision to live by their own rules, one choice at a time.

Malala Yousafzai was just a teenager who wanted to go to school. In her world, this simple wish defied a tide of oppression. It wasn’t a grand act of rebellion but a personal stand for her right to education that spiraled into an extraordinary journey. Each step she took from her small town in Pakistan onto the global stage was driven by this basic, yet profound choice.

Alan Turing, fascinated by puzzles, didn’t set out to be a war hero or the father of computing. His journey began with a curiosity about the nature of thought itself, and his groundbreaking work stemmed from a series of decisions to follow his passion for mathematics, even when it led him into uncharted territories.

Nikola Tesla, an immigrant filled with unconventional ideas, simply believed in the potential of alternating current. His unwavering commitment to his vision, despite skepticism, turned his once-outlandish ideas into the foundation for modern electrical systems, showing how faith in one's convictions can illuminate the world.

Grace Hopper was driven by a curiosity about how things worked and how they could be improved. Her foray into computing wasn't born from aspirations of becoming a pioneer but from a desire to solve problems and make technology more accessible, demonstrating that innovation often starts with a simple question.

Greatness often begins with simple, relatable desires: to learn, to question, to explore, and to change the world on a human scale. Their stories aren’t just about the heroic feats or the legacies they’ve left behind; they’re about the power of living according to one’s own values and making choices that, while seemingly small at the time, can lead to an extraordinary life.

So here you stand, at the precipice of your next big leap. Will you step back into the shadows of what-ifs and maybes? Or will you jump, embracing the uncertainties, the risks, the sheer potential of what could be??

Every day is a new scene in the epic tale of your life. Will you fill it with bold strokes of courage and innovation, or will you leave the pages blank, full of opportunities not taken, and dreams not pursued?

Don't just exist. Live.?

Dare to be the architect of your fate, to paint your journey with vibrant, fearless hues.?

The choice is yours.?

What will you create?

And the truth be told, I dare you! Great expressions of Truth!
