Heroes and Villains: A Necessary Balance
We are all villains in someone else's story and every villain is the hero of their own story.?When we look at the universe of heroes and villains, it’s easy to think that they are opposites, divided by a line so wide you could never cross. But the line between them is much thinner than we think, both heroes and villains often have dreams of making the world a better place. They just go about it in very different ways.
Two characters Batman and The Joker, if we closely examine their motivations, goals, and methods of achieving those goals, there exists a striking similarity between the two. Both wish to make Gotham City a better place for its citizens, however where Batman works within the law to achieve his ends (albeit through vigilante justice and always being chased by the police) The Joker acts outside of the law with chaotic plans based on fear and destruction. They both enact extreme measures but ultimately share similar desires for good in Gotham—they have very differing approaches as to how to reach that goal.
This is true even amongst our own real-world “heroes” vs “villains” the politicians who try enact laws like Trump and Biden or entrepreneurs who create businesses all seek out positive change while police officers or activists may use more extreme means of reaching those same outcomes. Even if their tactics are vastly different each side still has an underlying mission to make things right again after something was wronged no matter what your personal opinion might be on how they got there.
It's a reminder for all of us that while sometimes people start off with good intentions life can get complicated very quickly which leads some people down darker paths than others – paths which lead towards becoming hero or villain depending on whose eyes you ask! So maybe instead of thinking about heroes facing off against villains separate entities let us consider them as opposite sides running along parallel tracks striving for one common goal — peace and happiness around them! There's no God without the Devil, no positive without the negative and the reality is one can't exist without the other which to me means that they are equally as important to keeping the universe in balance.

1 年Adjacent to this thought, is the idea that everyone is the main character in the “movie” of their own life. And whereas your best friend or S.O. are “supporting characters” in YOUR movie, you are but a supporting character in THEIR movie (wherein THEY are the lead). In fact, we are very frequently just background actors in most people’s “movies” and would do well to remember this as we interact with other humans in our daily life. Deeply leaning into this perspective has a powerful effect on your ability to show up and impact the lives of others in a significantly positive way.
