Heroes of Ahousaht tribute sculpture
One year ago, a group of twenty-one people were rescued from drowning in the icy waters off Tofino B.C. by the Ahousaht mariners. A wave had capsized the boat and the passengers of the leviathan II struggled to stay afloat in the nightmare of a diesel filled violent ocean.
The Ahousaht mariners on small boats did what they always do. They went to the rescue. “We have done this in the past, we do it today and we will do it in the future, regardless of race, religion or color
In honoring the Ahousaht People, a monumental bronze sculpture will be created as a tribute.
An enlarged life cast of the arms and hands of a survivor and her rescuer will form the larger portion of the sculpture, the survivor being pulled from the water.

“I see this project not only as a tribute to the Ahousaht people, but as another bridge for cultural understanding between the Ahousaht and the rest of the nation.”
