HERhealth Pilot Creating Healthier Futures for Production Workers in China, India and Vietnam

In 2016, Ansell made a commitment to empower female workers in its manufacturing plants to take charge of their health by launching the HERhealth initiative as a pilot program in three plants: Ansell Vina, Bangalore and Xiamen China. HERhealth programs have already reached more than 250,000 women working in global supply chains in 11 countries.

Phase One consisted of the recruitment and training of Health Ambassadors, female employees recruited at each plant to be part of its peer-to-peer education program. Focus groups were also conducted to gauge health needs and interests at each site. General Managers and the management team at each site have rallied around a commitment to the HERhealth project.

HERhealth focus areas include:

?Raising awareness on critical health topics such as healthy eating, personal and menstrual hygiene, and maternal health

?Improving health-related behaviors such as disease testing, seeking out preventative care and conducting breast self-examinations

?Addressing common myths and misconceptions around potentially harmful health practices and beliefs

?Building confidence and communication skills around discussing important health issues at work and at home

?Improving the capacity of workplace clinics to respond to workers' health needs

?Linking workplaces with external health service providers, such as local clinics

?Strengthening workplace policies and systems promoting worker well-being
