The TikTok Rollercoaster?
What's new?
The anticipated TikTok ban briefly became a reality. On the 19th, TikTok was shut down in the United States: but not for long. Just a few hours later on Sunday afternoon, the app was back online and available once again. This turnaround followed efforts by President Donald Trump to ensure TikTok remained accessible in the U.S.?
On January 20th, Trump signed an executive order granting TikTok a 75-day extension. This temporary reprieve delays enforcement of the law requiring TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app to a U.S.-based buyer.?
However, this extension doesn’t change the law itself. TikTok is still racing against the clock to find a U.S. company to take an 80% stake or face a complete ban in the U.S. Meanwhile, Trump added to the speculation that he favored a deal splitting TikTok’s ownership 50-50 between ByteDance and the U.S.??
The platform took to X to thank the president for his support and welcomed U.S. users back with open arms. For TikTok fans, creators, brands and the social media world alike, it was a collective sigh of relief. The app is back and the energy is as vibrant as ever!

Instagram’s New Profile Grid
What's new?
Instagram is shaking up user profiles with a new vertically aligned profile grid. The update is being widely implemented, changing the look of profiles everywhere. This design ditches the familiar three-column layout for a single, scrollable vertical format, mimicking the main feed experience. The new design emphasizes individual posts and feels more immersive, especially on mobile devices.
What's new?
For brand and creators, this shift might call for a fresh perspective on showcasing content. The vertical profile design offers an new way to highlight individual posts, but it challenges strategies built around the aesthetics of a cohesive grid. This change encourages a focus on the impact of standalone content rather than relying solely on the mosaic composition. With the global rollout in progress, this update promises to transform how Instagram profiles engage and attract audiences.

What's new?
This launch signals Meta’s continued effort to strengthen its platforms against TikTok.
