Tell me if this touches a nerve...
Whenever I talk to small business owners about Facebook they usually react in one of three ways...
1. They look at their feet and mumble, "I can't seem to build an audience. I don't think my clients are actually on Facebook." (This is a cop out.)
Or...
2. They roll their eyes, groan in exasperation and then loudly blurt, "It's such a time-sapping drain! I'm just over it!" (This can be so true!)
Or...
3. They beam with excitement, their eyes light up and they proudly exclaim, "I'm loving Facebook. And crushing it!" (Because they have cracked the code.)
Let's tackle each of these responses.
STEP ONE: BUILDING THE AUDIENCE
If you believe that your clients are NOT on Facebook, let me put this in perspective.
Eleven million Australians logged onto their Facebook account last month... out of a population of 23 million. So, that's almost half of Australia actively uses Facebook.
But, that 23 million is not the 'active population', which is only 16 million. That's what you get when you get rid of the very old, the very young and the criminally insane!
So, 11 million out of 16 million are on Facebook.
With those kind of stats, to say that your clients are not on Facebook is like saying, "My clients don't watch TV. Or listen to the radio!"
So, just to be clear...
Your clients ARE on Facebook. You just haven't figured out how to engage with them yet.
SPOILER ALERT: If you'd like to build an audience quickly on Facebook, I'm hosting a webinar on the not-too-distant future. It's free to attend.

STEP TWO: MANAGING YOUR TIME
Let's tackle the second bug-bear...
"Facebook is a time-sapping drain! Argh!"
This is true for just about every business operator that I have ever spoken with about Facebook... including the ones who are crushing it!
The main problem here is that Facebook keeps changing its tools and updating its rules.
However, in the past five years, the time that I've been using Facebook as a business development tool, some things have stayed constant.
The first constant is that the strategies I use haven't changed a jot. We've been applying the same strategies for five years. And they still work.
Currently we make about $10k from our Facebook efforts per week. I have consultant friends who are also using Facebook to generate about $10k in revenue from Facebook every month.
The second constant is that the automation tools available to manage your efforts on Facebook just keep getting better! And easier to use!
And cheaper too.
SPOILER ALERT: For most people, the tools are not the problem. They just don't have the strategies they need to use them effectively. That's something I'll be teaching on the live, online lesson.

STEP THREE: GENERATING REVENUE
Are you actually generating revenue from your social media efforts... that you can measure?
I suspect that only the tiniest percentage of small business owners on Facebook can claim that the tool is a direct source of revenue for their business.
That's why I opened with the statement...
"Most businesses should not be on social media."
Seriously.
Most small business owners should not be on social media, until they get the fundamentals of online marketing in place.
They are putting in mountains of effort (and sometimes lots of money too) and getting very little or no return at all. And that makes me sad.
Here's what is comes down to...
They have simply forgotten or just don't know the one golden rule of social media marketing.
Whether you're chasing fans on Facebook, building your network on LinkedIn, unleashing your inner maven on Twitter or get arty on Instagram...
As a business owner you must never forget that you have only one over-riding goal.
If you want make money from social media...
You must build the audience...
You must manage your time well...
But at the end of the day...
You must...
Get them OFF social media!
Get these future customers and client OFF social media onto your website, onto your landing pages, into your email database, into your meeting rooms, into a coffee shop, into your retail store, onto your cart page... and into your business.
Capiche!
Get them off social media.
SPOILER ALERT: During the live, online lesson, I'll be sharing the strategies and building blocks we use to get your future customers and clients OFF social media and into your business.
With that all said, I hope that you will join me online, as I break down the building blocks of social media marketing. And we'll have a whole lot of fun too!
