Here's Why I Wrote a Self Development Book.

Here's Why I Wrote a Self Development Book.

Today, I am extremely excited to share with you all the the Interactive Kindle edition of my "How Successful People Get Ish Done" is available for pre-order here. Amazon doesn't allow pre-orders for paperback books, but that will be ready for purchase via the same link on Tuesday, June 9th.

Ok, back to why I even wrote this book to begin with.

Someone recently asked me what differentiates my book from the thousands of others self-help books that are found online, which is what prompted me to write this post.

Here's part of my response to the question:

The audience is what differentiates my book. I wrote it for an audience that is often overlooked and underrepresented.
I read 45 self development books in 2019.
3 of them were written by people of color. None of them happened to be Latino.

Throughout my upbringing, I've found it extremely difficult to picture myself in certain jobs because of the lack of representation from people who come from a similar background as me. Up until the past decade, we had never even had a person of color be the president of the United States. And even to this day, representation of people from underrepresented backgrounds in the tech industry is mediocre, at best (Latinos making up only about 5% across the industry). It's tough to picture yourself doing something that you can't see people who you relate to in those positions to begin with.

There are a few reasons behind why I chose to write a self development book, but they all come back to the audience that I'm trying to uplift: People from underrepresented groups.

The underprivileged, overlooked and underrepresented. Generally speaking, the people who can do amazing things if they just had the right guidance coming from someone who they could relate to.

"If you can see it, you can dream it. If you can dream it, you can achieve it."

There are three reasons for why I wrote a book. Each of these lit a fire inside me to keep on going throughout this entire process.

First, because I believe that more people deserve to have the knowledge and resources to achieve their goals. It shouldn't solely be for the educated, wealthy, or the average person who indulges in the countless self-development books on a regular basis. Yes, self-development books are available online for anyone to purchase, but it is more encouraging when you can relate to the author is more relatable. When the author uses language that you understand and makes references that are common to you and your community. I'm now one of those authors for my community.

Second, because I want show people from underrepresented groups that it is possible for them to achieve their goals, even when sometimes there aren't be people who look like them, talk like them or come from similar backgrounds as them in those fields. As I mentioned above, I read 45 of the most popular self-development books last year. Not a single one of them happened to be a Latino. My message to people from underrepresented books: I'm not a great writer but still wrote a great book. You can do whatever you aspire to do if you educate yourself and develop a plan.

Moving on to third part of why I wrote this book.

Have you ever wondered how some people manage to have all their ducks in a row all the time? Why some people continuously fountain success while others try to break the glass ceiling with their forehead? Why some people always seem to be on a natural high? Why some are so energetic, motivated, relentless and seem like the have life all figured out?

Well, I did. And those are some of the burning questions that drove me to write this book.

And through my 930 hours of research, I learned that all of those wildly successful people focus most of their energy on one thing.

They focus ON THE HOW.

In my book, I dissect countless studies, stories, interviews, books and research papers.

I cut out all the fat and clearly outline a 7-step framework that anyone can use to achieve their goals.

This framework was developed to help people Get Ish Done.
