Here’s why Executive Assistants make for crazy-good event organisers

The executive assistant – if there’s an event to be planned in your corporation, you’re almost certainly the best person for the job. Here’s why…

1.   You have the resourcefulness of a CIA agent (and the organisational skills of the military): In any one day you have a hundred and one things down on your To Do list (and you accept more tasks with a smile, even the ones that need completing within 30 minutes flat). Your resourcefulness and organisational skills will certainly come in handy when planning an event (along with the many task lists and delegation).

 2.   The trickiest of guest requests are NOTHING compared to your 9-to-5: Client meeting at an exclusive venue within an hour? You’ve booked it in minutes (transport and catering too). The most specialist of dietary requests for the next AGM? You’ll not only meet them but serve up culinary delights. Safe to say that even the most demanding of delegate requests will be no match for you.

 3.   You are a tech mastermind: You basically have a PHD in business tech – wires, what goes where, apps, plugins, display systems (you name it). Creating a stage or setting up a PA system is going to be light work for you.

 4.   Indecisiveness? Never. You don’t have time for mulling over a decision for longer than needs be. You are thorough in your choices – you gather the required information to make the right decision, then you move on with the next task. From picking a venue, to selecting caterers and developing the day’s running order, you’ll need this decisiveness every step of the way when it comes to planning an event.

 5.   Multi-tasking? Let’s say you’ve surpassed level: expert: Some say that multi-tasking doesn’t really exist. That you can do one thing well, or more poorly. Those some people clearly aren’t executive assistants.

You don’t waste a minute – you’re typing while on hold, talking while simultaneously arranging piles of files. This multi-tasking is another essential skill for event management, as you’ll deal with multiple team members and endless vendors.

 6.   You are brutal at prioritising: Your executive relies on your ability to prioritise in a split second – knowing what you should focus on right now, and which issues can wait until later in the day. All of which will help you in creating a plan of event objectives in a clear order of priority.

As an executive assistant, you’re more than equipped to take everything event planning can throw your way. But, having worked with many EAs, we know just how pressing your day job is.

I have total respect for all of the EA’s and PA’s we work with; they are always so busy but still manage to maintain a sense of humour!!
