Here's Why Every Kid You Know Wants To Be a YouTuber
$15 billion dollars. That's the amount of advertising revenue generated by YouTube in 2019. That number grew by 36% year over year. That number accounts for 9% of Google's overall annual revenue. For anyone following along, Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006. An absolute steal.
So why does your 13 year old nephew want to be a streamer on Twitch and YouTube? Why does your 17 year old daughter watch makeup tutorials every single week from her favorite channel?
The Freedom of Expression
YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine in the world. Only Google, their parent company, has more search queries in a given day. Name a topic and YouTube has multiple videos on that very specific search.
I've learned the same information on YouTube as I did in 4 years of college courses at a Big-10 University. The amount of content is shocking. This is why young kids want to be on the platform. They want to be creators, because as humans we all need to express ourselves. What better way to express yourself than to millions of people. This is me and this is what I want to talk about on my channel today. It's healthy.
Notice how "Freedom of Expression" comes before "Money". We all crave freedom of expression. Clothes, cars, tattoos, art, haircuts, etc..
The Money
Remember $15 billion dollars in 2019? Google and YouTube don't take all of that money as profit, some of that revenue is distributed to the creators of the videos. Here's a video from Graham Stephan, his channel has over 1 million subscribers and most of his content revolves around personal finance and real estate.
$45,000 PER WEEK. YOU'RE JOKING ME RIGHT? HAS THIS YOUTUBE THING CAUGHT YOUR ATTENTION BY NOW?
Graham is an all around amazing guy. I've never met him, I'll probably never meet him, but I feel personally connected to him. Probably because I've watched over 200 of his videos but I digress. Graham creates content that I enjoy to watch. He has the freedom to express himself however he chooses and makes great money doing it. This is the life all young people want to live.
Why YouTube is Special and How It Can Help Your Business
YouTube Channels, like Graham's above, are the modern day Television Station. Think of Graham's Channel like ESPN. There are tons of other channels in the personal finance/real-estate category too. Those other channels are like ABC, NBC, and Fox. They all have similar content, some days I watch ESPN and some days I choose Fox.
Think of your business. What channels do you advertise on? Do you advertise with billboards, Facebook, TV, or radio? Which one is the most effective for you?
Now create a YouTube channel for your business. Create the content that you want your customers to see. What kind of questions do your customers frequently ask? Create a video answering those questions for them.
Remember YouTube is the world's 2nd largest search engine. It's not just a site for kid's to waste their time anymore. Information, education, and business is found on YouTube. Is your business found there?
