Here's what you missed from SteelEye in July 2024
Welcome to the latest edition of "Here's what you missed this month at SteelEye." July was another busy month for Team SteelEye, highlighted by award recognitions, global travel, and some timely content.
We had the pleasure of participating in the FCA's Market Abuse Tech Sprint, where we presented the ways that AI can be used to detect complex forms of market abuse. Additionally, the SteelEye team made a trip to South Africa to attend Investec's 2024 Market Surveillance Conference and learn about the latest regulatory trends in the region.
SteelEye also continued to strengthen our footprint in North America, with our co-founders Matt Smith and Matt visiting a number of clients and prospects in Toronto and New York City. Lastly, we're proud to have been named winners of multiple industry awards, including recognition from WithIntelligence and Chartis Research.

Events: FCA Market Abuse Surveillance TechSprint
Last week, the Financial Conduct Authority hosted a Demo Day for their annual TechSprint, which focused on Market Abuse Surveillance. As part of the event, SteelEye's Ai Vee Lim presented how AI-driven solutions can be used to detect complex forms of market abuse like cross-product manipulation.
At SteelEye, we firmly believe that AI can be an extremely beneficial tool when it comes to streamlining and simplifying surveillance processes, and the TechSprint was a great opportunity to showcase this to an extremely engaged audience of regulators and financial firms.
Awards: Chartis Research Recognizes SteelEye as a Category Leader
In July, Chartis Research named SteelEye as a Category Leader for Communications Surveillance. This is the second consecutive year that Chartis has recognized SteelEye as an industry leader in this category. The announcement reiterates our commitment to providing financial firms with the most comprehensive tools for capturing, archiving, and surveilling their electronic communications.
Blogs: The Hidden Risks of Emojis in Financial Trading
SteelEye's CEO, Matt Smith, authored Harrington Starr's latest Financial Technologist Bitesize blog, covering "The Hidden Risks of Emojis in Financial Trading."
In the blog, Matt discusses the industry's growing concern around emojis in financial trading as potential tools for market manipulation and insider information. The inability of traditional surveillance systems to capture the nuanced meanings of emojis necessitates advanced solutions for effective monitoring and ensuring compliance and market integrity.
