Here’s what people really want from their employer

With fewer job openings available, the white-collar job market has tipped in favor of employers. Companies are becoming more selective, raising their expectations and requirements for potential candidates.?

At a time when job-seekers are polishing their resumes to present themselves as brilliant future employees, let’s flip the script a bit. ??

This week, we’re focusing on what makes a good employer, according to employees. Why? Because it’s hard out here, and these things still matter when the market’s not candidate-friendly.

In no particular order, here are 5 things employees really want.

(Spoiler alert: It’s not an office pizza party.) ??

Work-life balance ?????

GIVE ME A W… GIVE ME AN O… GIVE ME AN R…. just kidding we don’t have all day. The headline here is that in a study published in HRO Today a staggering 82% of employees said they expect employers to support work-life balance.

90% actually consider employers' well-being initiatives when making decisions about where they want to work. Woah.?

Growth and support ????

What’s just as scary as not having a good work-life balance? Not being able to grow!

A study from The University of Phoenix found that 52% of workers are afraid of their skills becoming “outdated” because of automation, AI, and other advancements.

Over 65% of workers would stay with their employer throughout their career if the employer made an effort to upskill or reskill them.?

Meaningful work ????

More applause, we’re living for the applause today. This one’s for all the Gen Zers and millennials out there. It’s most of us, and we’re not as different as we think.

71% of Gen Z employees said they'd take pay cuts to work for employers who offer meaningful work. Similarly, 67% of millennials want to work for companies whose missions they're aligned with.

Transparency and trust ????

Clapping again. Employees want in.

They want to know what's going on, how decisions are being made, and how they can contribute to solutions.

One survey by Slack showed that over 80% of employees want a better understanding of how their employers make decisions, and 87% of job seekers prioritize transparency when considering future employment opportunities.

Financial security ?????

Last but not least, let’s clap for financial security. This is absolutely crucial, for obvious reasons. As the cost of living continues to escalate 90% of employees are worried about basic living costs, and 40% are living paycheck to paycheck.

People want to work for employers who ease their financial burdens and provide them with a sense of security. Period.

What would you prioritize? ??

Is this a tall order for employers? Would you secretly take a pizza party over financial security and work-life balance?
