Here's what happens on Black Friday...

If the world economy drives off a cliff, what’s going to happen to online sales?

Because say what you will about the recent GDP numbers…or better yet try not to think about them…

E-commerce is doing great!

People are still buying things and if you just stop and look...you can see Black Friday and Cyber Monday looming over the horizon.

Shopify has made over $714 million year-to-date and is up 97%...

And we’re barely past the halfway point for the year.

So I gotta say…

Not bad.

Whatever’s happening with the rest of the economy...people haven’t stopped buying things.

And I’m going to bet you that they’re going to no matter how bad the numbers are.

Here’s why…

People don’t buy with logic.

Mark Twain had a famous saying about this...

People have two reasons for buying: the reason they tell themselves and the reason they tell their wives. 

I’ll take that a step further and add that they have the reason they tell themselves.

People have been trapped at home for months and under the best of circumstances, we’re not going to see people trample each other to death at Walmart come holiday time…

 People’s credit card fingers are going to be itchy though...and they will want to spend money to feel good and to buy gifts for each other.

When that happens some e-commerce biz owners are going to take everyone else’s lunch money and others are going to wonder how they missed it.

Who’s that going to be you ask...

The business owners who are spending the time to email their customers right now and are building up relationship capital with their clients.

Cuz if you think you’re going to just show up a week before the holidays with a 10% coupon code and say, “Hey, remember me?” I’m pretty sure you’re going to be disappointed with your results.

Smart business owners spend their entire year building, mailing, and engaging with their lists.

People like to buy from people they know, like and trust and guess what…

If you take the time to get to know your customers then they are less likely to fork over their cash to buy from your competitors or that one store that has a 3% profit margin and tries to undercut everyone else.

So if e-commerce is way up...

Credit cards have been sheathed in their wallets and have only been unsheathed to order Dominos from Ubereats…

And the holidays are coming…

Do the math and make sure you get in the game NOW…
