Here's Something I Don't Understand...

I love the fact that Biden's infrastructure plan is going to spend 80 billion on Amtrak! YAY! I use Amtrak and the rail system in this country is shamefully beyond the rest of the civilized world.

But wait a minute...

SInce I ride Amtrak often I've spoken to a lot of the workers and I've asked why they're so slow, and there seems to be two major reasons.

One: Amtrak shares the rails with deliveries. So, if a train is delivering potatoes to North Carolina, Amtrak has to wait behind it.

And two: The rails can only tolerate a limited speed. Now the rails from New York to Washington are a little newer and they have newer trains that go faster -- about 150mph. Not bad -- but it's only on that advanced track. (And still about 100mph than the Eurorail). The "normal" track throughout the rest of the country only allows the trains to go 80 mph. Pitiful.

So here's my question...

In order to replace all the tracks and build faster trains, it's estimated that the cost would be about 100 billion -- 20 billion short of what Amtrak will be getting. Then, there would have to be seperate rails for deliveries. (But the trains can still be slow). that's around another 20 billion. That leaves us 40 billion dollars short.

So, where exactly is that money going to go? What's it going to do?

Does anyone know? At all?
