Here’s a sobering stat: employee disengagement is at nearly 70%...
“Employee engagement is clearly an important issue for companies… The cost of this trend is dire. Disengagement costs American businesses between $450 and 550 billion dollars per year, and replacing a disengaged employee costs up to 150% of that employee’s annual salary.”
That quote comes from an article that resonated so strongly with me that I had to share it. (It also goes on to helpfully outline three component parts of employee experience.)
You might think this is just another way of talking about employee engagement. But it isn’t. Why? Because employee experience is the cause, and engagement is the effect.
As the article states, “Attacking low engagement, aside from being difficult to measure, fails to effect long-term change because it doesn’t address experience.”
Addressing the end-to-end employee experience is something we’ve been focusing on at J&J because we recognise how important it is in ensuring the happiness of our employees. Not to mention its potential impact on the future success of the business.
My team and I believe creating a truly memorable employee experience should start with candidates. And if you follow me on social media you may have seen that we recently launched a new candidate experience platform, which is one of the first steps we’ve taken on our journey.
I hope to update you again soon. Glad to have you on our side!

7 年Employee Engagement is a by-product of the values, purpose and vision of your business strategy along with the sense of belonging, being valued and a part of something bigger and more important than profits should be an outcome of your leadership strategy. Aligning employee friendly processes and congruent metrics and reward systems enable rather than drive engagement.
Connecting leaders who want to learn with their peers.
7 年Employee disengagement has been at 70% for the last 20 years. Maybe engagement is the wrong thing to focus on?

7 年It’s amazing that even in today’s world, leaders fail to understand this concept. Lack of empathy, and a lack of understanding as to what motivates today’s employees, are key to employee disengagement. Hire good people, help them develop into great employees, and envelope them in a culture that earns their loyalty.
