Here's one for the rugby front row brigade
On a cold snowy Monday afternoon after a superb weekend of 6 nations rugby, here's one for the front rowers;
Who is the most awkward opponent you ever played against?
Not the biggest or strongest, but the the one who gave you most grief, who you knew in your heart of hearts you would always have problems against.
For me it was Danny Herrington in the 1990s.
He was part of a front row known as the "Tillicoultry Troglodytes". He wasn't the biggest, but he was strong and a superb technical prop. He somehow seemed to better you no matter what you tried. He played with attitude and controlled aggression.
He won 3 Scotland "A" caps, many thought he should have won full caps. He was highly regarded by no less than Jim Telfer, a hard man to please, and he "schooled" Tom Smith in the front row arts when he was at Dundee. He also reputedly left Jason Leonard, then the World's most capped player, "squealing" in a Caledonian Reds v Harlequins match.
Sadly he is no longer with us having died young of cancer. but his legend is mighty!
