Here's More Evidence That Higher Wages Are Coming...
Here's my latest contribution to the Bloomberg Markets newsletter, which you should sign up for (free!) here.
Are rising wages finally around the corner? People have been asking that question for years. And so far the answer has been mostly no, at least according to official average hourly wage data. The lack of widespread wage inflation has been one of the most disappointing aspects of the U.S. economic recovery, yet there are signs that wage growth may finally be in the cards.
The latest evidence comes from this morning's NFIB Small Business Optimism Report. The report says that a net 16 percent of small businesses see higher wages in the future, which is the second highest level since late 2007. In addition, 16 percent of respondents said that finding quality workers was their No. 1 biggest business problem.
Obviously, the solution to having a difficult time finding employees is to pay them more. Hopefully these readings portend good things for workers.
