In this week's issue, I want to share?7 Steps To Get Your Community Off The Ground.
Online communities are an amazing way to build a stronger connection with your audience.?
Community building has changed my entire outlook on life. And for those looking to get started today's newsletter is for you!
As humans, we crave community and connection. We have been created by design to connect meaningfully with one another. The core of who we are is always craving a connection with others.
If you’re passionate about what you know, or you want to create a social ecosystem for your audience. There’s no better time than now to start your online community.
You just need to be excited about bringing people together and engaging them in conversation.
Here's a little secret!
Business ideas can be copied, but communities that increase your brand reach will give you a lasting competitive edge. The most successful creators out there understand that their members are the competitive edge that makes a thriving community.
Let's define community as an online space where you bring people together to connect around a common purpose or transformation.
Whether you’re a subject matter expert, entrepreneur, thought leader, niche expert, consultant, coach, online course creator, athlete, celebrity, or organization, the benefits of building an online community are undeniable.
Among those benefits, communities can turn your audience into engaged evangelists, drive traffic to your website, help you retain customers, and increase your revenue.
Think about it, communities support the entire marketing cycle!
And there’s a good chance you understand this already!
But you might be unclear about how to create a thriving community for your brand.
It all starts with finding a niche to serve.
It’s important to understand that communities are not random, but rather a diverse group of individuals who are like-minded and have common interests. You cannot take people with polar opposite interests and expect them to thrive or benefit in the same community – that’s where identifying a niche comes in, everyone should be able to benefit in some form.
As an example, recently I started building a cycling community for kids who want to race mountain bikes. A single community for kids in our local area, that helps them find places to ride and race with other kids. It's been so much fun getting together with the next generation of cyclists and our mission is simple..... more kids on bikes!
This community is a perfect example of a shared interest community that is both online and in person. It has a hybrid component as everything is arranged online, however, we meet in person to ride and race with the kids. The online part is growing fast right now, as parents and kids want to connect with others in the area, and online makes this so easy.
For the winter, we have already arranged group Zoom sessions of indoor riding to keep kids ready for the race season in 2023. This is why online communities are growing at a rapid pace. The ease of bringing others together and keeping them engaged is priceless.
However, to experience that ease it involves having a plan!
These 7 steps will help you start that process:

1) Define Your Community Purpose And Goals
2) Create Community Guidelines And Rules
3) Select A Community Platform (my advice stay away from building on rented land - FB Groups, LinkedIn Groups, etc)
4) Identify Community Stakeholders
5) Set Up Your Community
6) Build Engagement In Your Community
7) Grow Your Online Community
That is where you want to start, of course, there is much more!
