Here's how you can “beat” your fear...
The issue with fear is that it’s holding you back from creating the life that you want. So learning how to work with these fears is probably one of the biggest skills that you can acquire.
Most people will do almost anything to avoid their fears, to the point that they will live a life that they don’t truly want. Every waking moment is an opportunity that we get to go out and do something great - whatever that looks like for you.
There are only two fears that a human is born with:
- Fear of falling.
- Fear of loud noises.
Every other fear is learned from our upbringing.
Fear is the signal that we’re about to get out of our comfort zones. Getting out of your comfort zone is a good thing and you know that. If you feel fear, then that feeling isn’t bad, it’s good.
So of you could just switch up your perspective, then your life will be completely different.
Your amygdala which is the part of your brain that controls fear is great for keeping you alive, but awful when it comes to pushing through your self-limiting beliefs. Luckily, we make our fears up, which means that we can reverse it. We’ve got to think differently about the fears when they pop up. So lean in, you’ve got to push past the point of comfort.
You can’t remove the fear, but you can learn skills that will help you manage it better:
1. Change your mindset and show your brain why it’s wrong.
The best way is to take pen to paper, write it out and ask yourself some questions like these:
- What am I afraid of? Make sure to read your answer out loud a couple of times.
- What good can come from doing _____? Trying to find more positives than negatives.
- Why should I NOT be afraid of this?
- What action do I need to take right now?
We are programmed to give in to the fear, now you’ve got to train yourself when you feel the fear you take action. If you do this long enough, fears won’t hold you back anymore.
2. Make your goals bite-sized.
The bigger that something feels to you, the less likely you are to take action.
3. Learn to dance with your fear.
Successful people feel the fear and do it anyway.
The biggest takeaway is to feel the fear and do it anyway. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain from taking a leap towards the life that you want.
