Here’s how we are shutting down waste criminals
Environment Agency
It's our job to look after your environment and create better places for people and wildlife.
We want to eliminate waste crime by 2042. Here’s how we’re progressing.?
Waste crime is costing our economy an estimated £1 billion a year. That’s money being spent to deal with the damage caused by criminals that could be better spent on essential services.??
The environment suffers when waste is dumped, as it rots, and leaches into the ground and watercourses.?
And communities suffer from the disturbance caused by the selfish, sometimes dangerous people involved and the anti-social hours in which they commit their crimes.??
But we’re fighting back.?
Increasingly, courts are recognising the severe harm waste criminals are causing to the environment, communities, the legitimate waste industry, and the economy.?
Criminals who think they can get away with illegally handling waste need to think again.?
This is what they can expect when caught...
10-month jail sentence?

10-month custodial sentence for man operating illegal waste sites.

18 months in prison??

We’ll shut down waste criminals once and for all
The legitimate waste industry loses business to illegal operators like these who charge less because they aren’t following the law and regulations that are in place to protect us and the environment.?
But we now have access to more information than ever and have formed strong partnerships with regulators and law enforcement agencies, so these illegal operators have nowhere to hide.? ? We’ve reinforced and strengthened our Financial Investigations Team with the launch of our new Economic Crime Unit. This will increase our capacity to carry out money laundering investigations and strip criminals of their illegally gained money and assets.?
By making the waste industry a more difficult and less appealing place for them to operate, we’ll shut down waste criminals once and for all.?
If you work in waste disposal, check you have the right permits in place.

processing your waste tyres
9 个月Love the sentiment but it needs to happen now. Its your very own two tere waste system that allows and encourages unregulated exemption based waste facilities to trade outside of their exempt restrictions. You via Defra have a chance now to help pass the ending of the T8’s bill through parliament and end this ridiculous situation!
