Adding value to your social media profile and being active on it does not necessarily mean that you’re looking for a job, believes Kenneth Goh , vice president at Citi, Singapore.?

He says, “It’s a part of the learning process – on how to get better in your current job and gain more insights about adjacent industries.”

As a first step, he suggests, discovering new trends within your industry . “Update your Linkedin profile with your past and present employers, connect to your ex-colleagues, alumni network and follow your favourite Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).”?

Relevant information will then start to show up in your feed and you will start gaining insights into new trends. “You can then reshare the same information with your own interpretation. This will be a great first step to add value”.?

There are tons of content creators out there and our content may not be relevant to everyone but that’s okay, says Ratna Juita , founder and CEO of The Mindgem in Singapore. “Create content that is relevant for the people that you are serving ,” she adds.??

Connect with new audiences and expand your network

Networking is more than collecting name cards , it’s building and nurturing relationships,” says Juita.

Juita believes that the opportunity to reach people directly is powerful and still underexploited. She says, “The secret sauce of networking is showing genuine interest in people . Connect and network meaningfully with industry professionals and hiring managers. You’ll see them turning into friends and mentors in no time.”??

“You can only connect the dots looking backward . It was because of the network of people I met along my career that I was able to secure 5-figure projects,” she shares.?

Bring attention to your profile and work on your personal brand

“In this digital age, people are ‘googling’ you before they meet you in person ,” observes career coach Sarah Johnston .

“When you have a LinkedIn profile with a headshot, a first-person ‘About’ section, and thoughtful keywords, you are helping control the narrative. When someone lands on your page, you get to tell them what they need to know about you," she adds.?

Juita believes that hiring managers are always spotting for talent and if you have not started building your social presence, it’s never too late. “The best time to start was yesterday. The next best time is now,” she says.??

Building a personal brand takes time, effort, and consistency . It requires a commitment to establishing and promoting your unique identity and values, both online and offline. The benefits, however, can be significant – including increased visibility, credibility, and opportunities for career advancement.”?

Your social voice is your resume and it is for everyone

Your social voice is your resume – build credibility, start putting content out there and in time convert your audience into your cheer leaders,” says Anjali Sharma I Strategic Storytelling?? , a storytelling speaker from Singapore.?

Everyone uses a different playbook for success , believes Benjamin Loh, CSP a brand coach from Singapore. He debunks one of the biggest myths told - “social media is not for introverts”.

He says, “When you are able to observe intently, you pick up a lot of lessons and insights to share.”

I think there are some ways that social media can be used to enhance a candidate's personal brand and establised them as an specialist in their own sector: 1. Sharing valuable content related to one's field on social media can help candidates to establish their expertise and credibility with their followers. This content can include industry news, trends, and insights, as well as helpful tips and advice. By sharing useful information on social media, candidates can demonstrate their knowledge and passion for their field, which can make them more attractive to potential employers. Additionally, regularly sharing content can help candidates to build a following and expand their network, which can lead to new job opportunities and professional connections. 2. Creating and sharing original content on social media can establish candidates as thought leaders in their field, demonstrating their expertise and unique perspective, and making them more attractive to potential employers. 3. Sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of work and hobbies on social media can make candidates more relatable and memorable to potential employers. Thanks .

I think it's important to start with self-reflection and feedback. Take a really honest look at your current digital presence. Once you've established that, set goals (a.k.a. where you'd like to be). A third step would be to identify your target audience (e.g. potential employers in a particular industry or for a particular role), and then start posting content and highlighting your experiences which can best connect with your target audience.
