You may have heard people say, "Be YOU," yet have you ever wondered how to know who you really are? Do you know how much you truly know about yourself? Have you ever questioned how your unique wiring could be your superpower to thrive in your one precious life?
I embarked on this journey of self-discovery nearly 10 years ago...
During the first part of my journey, I focused on having a holistic view of my HI Zone (natural talents, life purpose, true passion and core values). For the years prior to this journey, I had been successful and had had a nice life. I was also somehow aware of the certain traits I had, based on the feedback from those around me as well as my own observation.
Yet uncovering the HI Zone in its totality opened up a whole new level of being, working and living for me. It helped me really tap into how I am wired as an individual and have a long-term career and life vision. In moments of doubts and when under pressure, I had the HI Zone as my compass. In this world of constant stimulation, I could get things that truly mattered done. And this gave me a much deeper sense of happiness and led me to success beyond my imagination.
However, there was still a missing piece of the puzzle. Who I am would be incomplete without seeing my LOW Zone, where my core inner pain and blind spots lie. The later part of my journey then saw me examine the emotional pain formed from my childhood, and unravel?the core self-limiting beliefs and blind spots accompanying it.
Till then, the LOW Zone had subconsciously, invisibly and quietly been influencing how I viewed and responded to the world around me, from performing at work to parenting to navigating relationships. Sometimes, under significant stress and sparked by a certain trigger, it pulled me into a cyclone of unhelpful thoughts and heavy emotions. ?
So well, in general, I was successful, happy and positive, except for the few times the LOW Zone knocked me down.
Yet, being aware of it and conquering it through each life situation liberated me in many ways. I parented with more ease, nurtured the important relationships with more grace, became much kinder to myself while still performing at my peak. Indeed, I became my own compass for everything in life.
Of course, the core inner pain still sometimes hit me, since it's deeply hardwired in my brain structure for so many years (just like everyone else, including Jennifer Lopez in the article shared below). But I am now able to get out of it much more quickly so my brain could be back to its responsive mode and deal with the problem at hand in the most effective way.
These days, I am still watching myself with no less curiosity and fascination. Each external challenge is each opportunity for me to further examine my inner world and to see my HI Zone and LOW Zone even closer. The outer world therefore feels even much more meaningful, peaceful and beautiful. And I am glad that I started to do this most important work of one's life early enough.
So since?each of us is on this earth briefly, why not knowing ourselves deeply in order to be on it briefly... gorgeous (words borrowed from a book title)?
