I LOVE valentine’s day, call me a hopeless romantic but let’s just say I’m in love with the thought of love. When a person shows you love it can make you feel amazing. But there is a love that is even better than the one that we get from others and that is self-love.
A person’s level of self-love is always obvious to me, because their life is a reflection of how they feel about themselves.
Self-love is the concept of having a healthy, high regard for one’s own well-being, health, and happiness. Self-love is an internal emotion but can influence our decisions such as the friends and romantic partners we choose, the careers or jobs we choose, how we treat others and the types of environments in which we allow ourselves to live or experience.
Cultivating self-love starts with internal transformation. That transformation involves a person elevating their belief around their personal value, self-worth, dignity, compassion for themselves (and others), and overall deservingness of happiness and good health.
Once someone is able to develop self-love, they are then able to tangibly express that belief through action and behavioral change.
Check out the video below to hear me talk more about self-love.
If you want to have the greatest Valentine’s day ever, then start by taking your self-love to the next level.
Here are 3 simple ways to start increasing self-love:
1. Mindfulness: in order to start examining how you feel about yourself, you must start to become more aware of who you are, what you want, and how you feel. Building a daily mindfulness routine helps you get super focused and aware so that you can start making necessary changes to your life.
2. Set boundaries: as you build your awareness you may realize that you need to start saying no to people, places or conditions that are not of your highest good or health. Saying no or setting limits protects your energy and time from situations that may deplete or harm you.
3. Forgive yourself: so many times, I see my clients struggling to get past negative beliefs about themselves because they never forgave themselves for past failures or traumas. Forgiveness is truly the highest form of self-love because it acknowledges deep compassion for ourselves.
Once you are able to truly cultivate self-love you will realize that you have the power to take your life to a higher level of joy, peace, and happiness. So, how much do you really love yourself?
