Here's a fun fact about traffic management
In the Netherlands, there is a village called Drachten that decided to completely remove almost all of its traffic signs, signals, and road markings in an experiment known as "shared space." Instead of relying on traditional traffic control measures, the town encouraged drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to interact with each other using eye contact and non-verbal communication to navigate intersections and streets. The idea was to promote safer and more considerate behavior on the road.
Surprisingly, this unconventional approach led to a significant reduction in accidents and improved traffic flow. It demonstrated that sometimes, simplifying traffic management and relying on human instincts and courtesy can be an effective way to manage traffic and make roads safer.
