Here's to the Crazy Ones

Here's to the Crazy Ones

Admit it…You know it’s true! Entrepreneurs are strange people. We’re the crazy ones, the dreamers, the doers….We’re not afraid to try new ideas or to venture out on our own path….We’re the troublemakers and the feather rufflers. We’re bursting with ideas for new products and services and can barely contain our excitement when the subject comes up….and let’s face it….it’s all we think about! Meanwhile the other people in our lives roll their eyes and call us crazy…They just don’t understand us.

I’m sure you’ve heard it before…”You’ll never make a living doing that….Be realistic….That’s just crazy….You need to go to college, get a degree, and get a ‘good job’….” ARGH!!! They just don’t get it! You nod your head ever so slightly, as if in agreement, but inside your brain is screaming,” I don’t want a J-O-B!  I don’t want to work for someone else!  I have big plans and dreams of my own!  I don’t want to build someone else’s dream! No, No, No!”

Sound familiar? All you’ve ever wanted was to own your own business…Maybe you’ve been dreaming of starting your own business or maybe you already have and you have a vision for your company that will include broad expansion around the world. It’s true, owning and running a business isn’t for everyone, but neither is a job working for someone else.

“Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs.”  ~Farrah Gray

Western society has brainwashed us into believing working 9-5 (and then some) is normal…it’s what’s expected of us, and if you don’t fit that mold, you are somehow strange (or lazy). Like there’s something wrong with you…But in this age of technology, and the reality that ‘The World Is Flat’ (Thomas Friedman) we know that job security isn’t really a thing in this day and age. The fact is, we can be out-sourced, down-sized, laid off, or fired at any point during our career, and it’s completely out of our control, no matter how good we are. The only way to create real job security is to create our own economy.

“The best way to predict your future is to create it.” ~Abraham Lincoln

When you’ve been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, the idea of being trapped in a job for any length of time brings on all sorts of feelings…anxiety, frustration, mind-numbing boredom…(picture a scene from Walking Dead with walkers dragging themselves down the road…yup, that’s you on your way to your ‘job’) No matter how much you love your job and co-workers, (unless you’re fortunate enough to work for a company like Google, for example, that encourages individuality, autonomy, and innovation) let’s face it, it’s just a matter of time before you’ll be restless and dying to break your chains so you can pursue your own dreams.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ~Steve Jobs

So yeah, I totally admit it. I’m one of those crazy people. I’m crazy enough to believe that I can make a difference and make a living at the same time. I’m crazy enough to think that my ideas could help lots of other people. I’m crazy enough to think that we can help each other and there will still be enough for everyone. And I’m crazy enough to believe that the world needs your crazy ideas too!!!

So what are you waiting for??? Make it happen! Get out there and change the world!

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world;

Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ~Margaret Mead
