Here's 5 Tips From Me To You - On How To Answer The Question - “Why Do You Want To Work At This Company?”

From my 25 years experience as a Recruitment Consultant and now as a Career Coach Practitioner, I find that the majority of hiring managers take real pride in working for their organisation. So, they naturally will gravitate to those that are genuinely attracted and curious about their company and their vacant position.

Here's 5 Tips From Me To You - On How To Answer The Question - “Why Do You Want To Work At This Company?”-

1 Research about the company vision. If you feel connected and aligned to the vision then let them know and explain why!

2 Research recent news about the company. For instance, if you have seen in the news they are going through a merger and you have recent experience in this field let them know.

3 Share what has gotten you excited or inspired from interacting with current or ex-employees, people in your network or the positive media or industry stories you have heard about the company.

4 Focus on the companies opportunities for future growth and how you can contribute to it. Talk about how your strengths, skills, experience and knowledge will be beneficial.

5 Keep your answers clear, concise and positive. Don't talk too much as it gets you off track and they may lose interest in your response.

There is no magic answer. The secret to success is doing thorough research and being extremely clear about what has attracted you to the role/company and communicating this to the hiring manager. Put yourself in their shoes – what are they needing to hear for them to identify that you are the right candidate for their position.
