Here is why you are still jobless

It is not enough to e-mail Resume or CV to find the job we are looking for.

Imagine that a vacancy is announced and hundreds of CVs are sent.?

What makes you different from others? What should you do to make your CV stand out?

- "My work experience is better and the design of the CV is eye-catching. Therefore, my CV should be evaluated first."

I'm sorry, but this ? is not the case anymore.

You are not aware of other 185 CVs sent for that vacancy and you can be sure that there are people among them who have better work experience than you. That is why we must change our approach to the issue. Relying on our work experience and skills is completely fine, however if we don't find the right way to present it then it is no use. Employers (most of them) actually do not look at all the CVs we sent. I know you are saying, "But it is their job responsibilities". Yes you are right, but what if they do not take it serious? Are you going to complain about it or look for another way? Therefore, it would be a waste of time to simply send a CV and wait for an answer.

What can we do to be selected and get an interview offer as soon as possible?

We need to hustle.

So:

  1. We see the vacancy announcement and send a CV to the specified email.
  2. If the announcement is taken from a jobsearch.az or other job related websites, we search for the company profile on LinkedIn and find out who the Human Resources employee is so we can connect them, as the email addresses mentioned in job announcements are often general one (eg [email protected]). If you have seen the announcement on LinkedIn, then we send a connection request to the person who has shared the announcement.
  3. 2-3 hours later, we contact (or write) the person we connected, thank them for the announcement and while mentioning that we sent our CV already, ask them to let us know whether they received it.
  4. "Kamal, what to do, in case if our connection request is not accepted?" In such cases, I often look for the company number on Web and call them directly. If there is a receptionist or another employee who answers my call, I introduce myself as a company representative and say that I want to talk to Human Resource Department for cooperation. Giving the name of the employee we want to talk to will give the other side the impression that "Yes, this person seems to know our employee" and will direct our call (with 85% probability) otherwise they will request us to send them an email, which isn't going to be any help.
  5. "Kamal, what if the Human Resources employee suddenly criticizes me for calling them in the name of cooperation when I actually called them in search of a job?”. Ideal answer would be this "Ms. Aysel (it could be "him"), you have a point, and I do apologize for that. I was afraid you wouldn't talk to me if you knew I am calling with regards to my resume. I just wanted to talk to you thinking you might miss my resume, because I know I'm a suitable candidate for the vacancy you've posted.". Note - It is okay to change the context, but make sure you sound confident. Before you call anyone, prepare your speech in advance and practice it couple of times.
  6. Let's say, she let us know that they received our CV and will get back to us soon. Right after talking to her, we write a thank you email and say we will wait for their reply. They will still not get back to us (80% probability)! 48 hours later, we write another email.
  7. If there is no reply from their side, we call them. I hope you get an answer now. Even if you are told "Interviews are still going on, we will let you know", you can make sure that, thanks to the calls you made and the emails you send, they will remember you. On the other hand, you already let them feel that you are interested and serious in working for this company.

The above mentioned principles might sound little hectic and I must say it is not going to be easy to apply all in the beginning.

But if you apply these principles to your job search process, after applying or sending resume to each job vacancy announcement, I can assure you that sooner or later you will get a positive result.
