Signing and executing a Letter of Intent with The University of Kansas Health System

Liberty Hospital, together with The University of Kansas Health System, is pleased to provide this update: Leaders at both organizations signed and executed a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) to partner. As the combined product of Liberty Hospital’s extensive, rigorously thoughtful partner exploration and extensively focused collaboration with The University of Kansas Health System, the LOI establishes our organizations’ shared goals and defines our vision for alignment. The signing of the LOI also marks the start of the final phase of due diligence and partnership planning between our organizations.

We expect to complete the work ahead and announce the details of our final agreement early in 2024. It is already abundantly clear that the benefits of this partnership will be numerous and far-reaching for our patients, staff, providers and Northland communities. In keeping with our commitment to transparency, we’re happy to share some highlights of the shared goals established in our LOI:

  • Significant investments by The University of Kansas Health System in and enhancements over time to current Liberty Hospital services, facilities, infrastructure and technology
  • Retention of Liberty Hospital employees
  • Extension of The University of Kansas Health System’s highly specialized and subspecialized care to the Liberty Hospital service area and beyond
  • Support for Liberty Hospital’s pursuit of Magnet designation, the nation’s most respected designation for nursing and operational excellence
  • Liberty Hospital-based leadership focused on patient, staff and community needs and opportunities for growth to meet those needs, as part of the health system.
  • Community input, including the expertise and institutional knowledge of the Board of Trustees reflected in a new Advisory Board
  • Pursuing enhanced physician and provider recruitment at Liberty Hospital
