What companies can do?

Recognize that burnout isn’t an individual problem.?It’s an organizational problem!

Healthcare specialists say burnout is CONTAGIOUS.

When one person in an organisation goes through burnout and exhaustion, others too are likely to experience burnout.

So, a culture shift is required at workplaces. We must encourage people to take short breaks, recharge during the day with a short walk, a device-free lunch.

Taking care of oneself must be celebrated!

Companies should consider workplace culture, not just well-being programs.

This is a fact: Impractical targets, tooth and nail competition between teams and individuals, and disregard for everything else but the work creates a culture where burnouts are guaranteed. Just some well-being packages won't help. Overall work-culture audit is a must.

That's why some companies in the US are appointing a dedicated Chief Well-being Officer!

What do team members at Opportune do to relax and recharge ourselves?

Dhwani Mehta,?Founder and Director:?He plays video games on his mobile. A video game junkie, he pretends to be deep in his work while actually having fun earning 'virtual lives' and beating his own score.

Parag Shah, Product?Manager: He has a philosophical view. He disconnects to reconnect. He takes a walk. Or plays with kids. He says, the code to beat burnout is-- take frequent breaks from noise to appreciate the beauty of silence.?

Anurag Jaiswal,?Team lead--Application implementation and Support:?To recharge himself, he feels laughter is important. So he watches funny reels and posts on Instagram.?

Ankit Shah,?AVP--Business development:?Listens to music to keep his cool. And always has a smile on his face. For some people,?meeting Ankit is a way to avoid burnout!

Planned and unplanned parties:?parties are a regular thing at Opportune. Our team works hard, and we also have fun together. Sometimes HR plans it. But very often, these are spontaneous. While Dhwani Mehta is busy with his video games, other people don't pretend to be working: They simply have fun!
