Here are the pointwise details of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) guidelines for energy meters in open access solar projects in India:

1. Meter Specifications

  • Rated Maximum Current: The meter should have a rated maximum current that is 100% of Imax.
  • Terminals: Meter terminals must be capable of carrying 150% of Imax.
  • Casing: Meters should be housed in a safe polycarbonate casing.
  • Insulating Materials: All insulating materials must be non-hygroscopic and non-aging.

2. Meter Installation

  • New Installations: The renewable energy meter should be installed in the same location as the consumer meter.
  • Existing Consumers: For existing installations, the consumer meter must be replaced with the renewable energy meter.

3. Interface Energy Meters (IEMs)

  • Manufacturing: New IEMs should be factory manufactured to operate in 5-minute time blocks.
  • Data Collection: The Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system should collect 5-minute load survey data from all interface points and transmit it to the Meter Data Processing (MDP) system.

4. Maintenance

  • AC Electricity Meters: Maintenance should adhere to the code of practice specified in the relevant Indian Standards (IS).
