Here are 5 Tips When Purchasing A Used CNC Machine

??Price: Price is an important factor and obviously needs to fit within the budget of the company or the individual purchaser. But keep in mind that you get what you pay for. Although a certain machine may be cheaper upfront, in the long run, the amount of servicing it may need or the cash flow coming from the machine may be less than if you spent a little extra on a higher-quality CNC machine. Everything starts with price but keep remembering the price you’ll have to pay down the road.

??Credibility of Distributor: By working with a credible company/dealer, you can relieve yourself from headaches and losses. Consider how long the dealer has been in business, whether they are trusted within the Used CNC space, and whether you can talk to those who recently bought a machine from them.?Consider these questions and you will know if you are dealing with a credible seller.

??After Purchase Support: ?At some point, your machine will run into problems, so work with dealers that are experts in service/support.

??Properly Prepping Machines Prior to Shipment: Whenever you move machines, it is important to properly prepare the equipment. When you contact a used dealer, ask them what their checklist is when prepping a machine to ship. A brief checklist would be

  • Video of all axis and major components moving and fully functioning
  • Drain coolant
  • Lock-down brackets installed on all axis to ensure nothing moves during shipping
  • Wrap control
  • Pull from power
  • Make sure electrical doors are locked
  • Box all manuals, tooling, and keys
  • Pictures of lock brackets
  • Printed notes on the machine in 3 spots showing the current-voltage

??Machines Under Power with Service Personnel Going Through the Machine: The last and final tip when considering a used machine is to have someone go through the machine while it is on. Have them show you the machine live and in action. Really investigate the machine while it is on and pay attention to the performance of the machine and how the machine sounds. If you hear any grinding or rubbing, the machine may have a problem.??
