Optimising employee competency to improve performance and mitigate risk
Business Development Manager, Sam Turner , is taking on the London Marathon! We caught up with Sam to tell us a bit more...
What made you decide to take part in this years' London Marathon?
I’ve decided to run the London Marathon this year because I’ve always had an interest in keeping fit, and I want to take it to the next level! I’ve never competed in a run before, but I’ve competed in hockey for my county and played football.
I believe keeping fit is not only great for your body, but essential for your mental health.
Running the marathon will push me both physically and mentally, so I’m well up for the challenge! I’ve also always been a very competitive individual, whether I’m playing hockey, football, or even if I’m down the pub playing pool with my friends, I always want to win and accomplish my goals.

Who are you running in aid of and why?
I chose VICTA as the charity I wanted to run for because I believe that every child has the right to clear vision and the support they need. As a glasses wearer myself, I know first-hand the importance of sight and I’m keen to ensure that visually impaired children have the support they need.

How’s your training coming along and what are you doing to make sure you’re best prepared?
Training is coming along well! However, I do suffer with shin splints so I’m splitting my training between treadmill, road running and a workout bike. This gives my shins time to recover, whilst still getting the cardio under my belt.
My training consists of a mixture of interval running & long-distance runs, but it’s also important to have rest days! My diet has changed slightly during the preparation - I’ve given up fizzy drinks and chocolate, so I can’t wait until I’ve completed the marathon and I can have those again!
How are you feeling about the marathon at the moment? Who are your biggest supporters and what’s keeping you going?
I’m feeling incredibly excited for it - only 1% of people in the world run a marathon so I’m looking forward to achieving this huge goal! I’d like to thank my family and friends for being such brilliant supporters. I’m going to be running the marathon with my sister and her fiancé – so we will definitely be able to draw strength from each other in the lead up to and during the race.
How’s the fundraising going and how can we donate?
My fundraising goal is to raise £1,850. I’m currently at 30%, so still some way to go! I’m hoping that the generosity of my family, friends, colleagues and the people of LinkedIn will get me to my target!
