HERBERT WIGWE- HOW CAN THIS BE? HOW!

HERBERT WIGWE- HOW CAN THIS BE? HOW!

How does a husband, wife, son, friend, and crew lose their lives in the blink of an eye? How does such a visionary business leader—a true Ace in the financial industry and beyond—one so young, so promising, so full of life, so impactful, purposeful, passionate, possibilities minded, become part of history—just like that? 'HOW'—beyond an ironical question—is an acronym and the angle I prefer to focus on as a coping mechanism to prevent me from asking the wrong questions.

H.O.W represents Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe's initials and the name of his visionary university (HOW University) set to launch in September 2024. #HOWLeadership embodies a style of leadership that's not only forward-thinking and ambitious but also deeply rooted in humility, authenticity, and a genuine commitment to global standards while staying grounded.

Herbert was a beacon of kindness, generosity, and a steadfast supporter of women's advancement. I remember vividly the launch of Access W, where I proudly served as one of the inaugural ambassadors, and marvel at the significant strides and achievements of Access W since then.

His unwavering support for African women was evident, even in his final tweets and LinkedIn posts.

On the professional front, Herbert's dedication to excellence was unparalleled.

He entrusted our company Fine and Country WA with our first breakthrough project in 2007, Maitama Heights Abuja, paving the way for more monumental projects that came our way after we successfully navigated that initial complex challenge.

His referrals and support were invaluable, especially during challenging times when his wisdom and big-hearted approach led us through, always focusing on solutions over sentiments.

On a personal note, Herbert was full of life—mischievous, hilarious, tenacious, and incredibly human. His passions were many: from real estate to children, education, banking, and above all, excellence. He had a profound love for the divine.

He was an exceptional storyteller. Doreen, his beloved wife, also known as Chizoba, known for her warmth and kindness, remains etched in my memory for her generosity, particularly to my nephew and niece, and a memorable journey I shared with both of them—a past now cherished.

HOW??? How is it that I find myself reflecting on Herbert in the past tense?

The tragic loss of Herbert Wigwe and those on that ill-fated helicopter in California on February 9, 2024, has left us grappling with a collective grief. In reaching out to close friends, I've seen the myriad ways we navigate this pain—through tears, prayer, reflection, and cherishing our memories of him.

This journey of healing is deeply personal, yet there's comfort in knowing we're not alone. Whether you find solace in quiet remembrance, or in sharing stories and lessons learned from Herbert and the loved ones we lost, it's vital to honor your feelings without being overwhelmed.

I encourage us all to lean on our communities, to seek support when the weight of grief feels too heavy to bear alone.

And as we mourn, let us also hold close the virtues and life lessons that Herbert embodied—his legacy of leadership, generosity, and relentless pursuit of excellence.

Prayers have been a cornerstone of comfort, especially for his family. After speaking with one of his siblings, my dear friend, it's clear that what they wish for most are your prayers and thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

In honouring Herbert's memory, let us also extend our deepest condolences to his family.

To his parents, once beaming with pride, now facing unimaginable loss—may you find strength and solace. May the Ogunbanjos, and all who mourn, be enveloped in love and comfort. May the souls of the departed find peace, as we cherish and celebrate their legacy, each in our own way.

'Lord, teach us to number our days, (to realise the brevity of life) that we may gain a heart of wisdom.' Psalm 90:12

So heartbreaking. He was a light that was going to brighten millions of lives. But who are we to question the Lord. May their souls rest in peace.

Too sad and one is short of words at this time ?? But it's obvious he lived well and his legacy lives on. May God comfort those whom he left behind... particularly Mama and Papa .. The greater sadness is in his wife and son and even dear Abim - who also tragically were in the crash. May the Balm of Gilead soothe their families in Jesus'name Amen ?? Shalom ??
