As her year’s placement at Lewis Moberly comes to an end, Lois Turner reflects on what agency life has taught her, and what the future holds.

When did you join Lewis Moberly and how did the contact come about?

I joined?Lewis Moberly?in July 2022 having responded to a placement ad on my Uni website.??I’m studying for a marketing degree at The University of West England (UWE) and have already done two years.??This is my placement year in industry and then I go back to Uni in September to complete my final year.??I’d read that 90% of students who do a placement in business find a job afterwards so that was a motivating factor. And, this was?Lewis Moberly!

What have you learnt so far and how have you found it?

I’ve learnt how important communication is and how to navigate a busy studio environment with lots of people working across different projects and disciplines. It’s completely different to Uni, with more structure and less of a blur between on and off time.??Basically, it’s real life! I’m an account exec at Lewis Moberly and I have a mentor in client service, Joe, who also went to UWE.??He’s always been on hand if I needed any support or guidance. I’ve learnt a lot.

What have you enjoyed most?

I really enjoy working in a creative environment with smart people.??It’s exciting to see what designers come up with from an initial blank piece of paper and a creative brief. I’m intrigued by the strategy department too – how do they make the complex seem so simple???I’ve also loved being part of the Friday Edit team. We explore new trends, insights and consumer behaviour which we share with our clients to ensure that they’re always ahead of the curve. The socials have been fun too!?

Have there been any challenges?

Liaising with clients has been a completely new experience for me and has really helped to build my confidence.??Working in a design environment has also been a learning curve as my degree is in general marketing.??I’ve learnt to prioritise my workload, understanding which tasks are the most important and dovetailing them with different deadlines.??I know all this will help me in the future so it’s all useful experience.

What’s next?

I’m kicking off the summer with some Greek island hopping and then back to Uni for my final year. And…after Uni, I’m keen to join an agency. I’ve got the bug!??Not a massive networked one though. Working at?Lewis Moberly?has given me an insight into independent agency life, and I like it!
