Are you a fan of hot wings? Have you ever wondered where and how they originated? Me too! So I looked it up, and here's what I found from the National Chicken Council (they sound very authoritarian):
Waayyy back in 1964, wings used to be considered undesirable and were sometimes thrown out. But one evening, bar owner Teressa Bellissimo cooked some leftover wings in hot sauce as a late-night snack for her son and his friends. (idk about you, but hot + peppery does not = a good late-night snack!)
The wings were such a hit with the guys that she added them to the menu the next day and served them with celery sticks and bleu cheese sauce.
Since the Anchor Bar was located in (you guessed it) Buffalo, New York, they garnered the name "Buffalo Wings" and were an instant sensation.
Here's the funny part... the guy who sold hot sauce to the bar was named Dick Winger!
Pictured is Spot, who's not too happy about the thought of you eating her chicken wings.
You're the wind beneath my chicken wings!???
