To Helvick and home
The Helvick swim in done! Another 2km in open water under my belt, this time with loads of jellyfish to contend with too. Not my favourite! As I swam through what seemed to be hundreds of them, I had to keep telling myself we are all God's creatures and they're probably more afraid of me than I am of them (and I was pretty freaked out!). This is an example of what they were like, although the photo is from a couple of summers ago in Cork.
Despite being the last person out of the water - thank you person on microphone for announcing my name and number to the entire assembly! - I am hugely proud of the achievement and proud that with your support we raised over double the target funds on my personal link! That donation link is still open, so please go ahead and contribute here if you are so inclined - all funds go to the RNLI - The charity that saves lives at sea. https://www.justgiving.com/page/maeve-lankford-1718614454799?utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=page%2Fmaeve-lankford-1718614454799&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=pfp-share
Huge thanks to the amazing RNLI Team who were there in force yesterday, they were full of support and good cheer as they worked to keep us all safe. I am full of #awe for what they do all year round to keep us safe on the seas.
And as ever, my personal thanks to the kayakers who guide, encourage and cajole those of us who need it all the way back to shore.

It was such a great community celebration on the pier when we all got to Helvick - thanks to everyone for making it an amazing experience and special thanks to my boys who were my dream team on the day and to my great friend Marie who was there to welcome me home
Taking time to rest up today and consider all that's been involved in my journey over the past 12 months, when I first set the goal to swim 2km. Special thanks to my swimming coach Billy Carr in particular for his role in getting me to this stage and to Claire Hurley for the original introduction and unfailing encouragement since!
And while there's a part of me that just wants to relax and enjoy the achievement you will perhaps not be suprised to hear there's another part of me wondering... what's next? Suggestions welcome!!
